Over the span of two days, participants will delve deeply into the art of writing songs. The first day will focus on finding a state of creative flow and discovering song ideas in a positive and collaborative learning environment. The second day will expand on initial song ideas to create themes and fuller songs. With an emphasis on improv and its intersection with songwriting, this bootcamp will cultivate total engagement in group activities, initiating more possibilities for inspiration and collaboration. At the end of the two days, participants will showcase new original songs in a final presentation. A chance for songwriters to hone in on their creative voice, become more prolific and have an intrinsically rewarding experience.
Sarah Brindell is a songwriter, arranger, producer, musician, and full time Professor at Berklee College of Music. With touring credits around the world, she has shared the stage, written for and recorded with many renowned artists including Norah Jones, Carole King, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ivan Neville and Stephen Marley. Her original songs can be heard on many television shows including MTV’s Made. She was a finalist in the Song of the Year contest as part of VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation, as well as the Billboard World Song Contest.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate from Boston University, she holds a masters degree in Music Education, and teaches courses on campus and online in songwriting, arranging, harmony, ear training, arranging and stage performance. She conducts clinics nationwide and internationally, and continually helps thousands of students to reach their full potential as professional musicians and songwriters. Successful former students include pop star St. Vincent, Amy Allen (2025 Songwriter of the Year Grammy recipient who writes for Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles, Selena Gomez, Halsey among others), Jake Torrey (songwriter for Charlie Puth, John Legend and Maroon 5), and Nikki Glaspie (drummer for Beyonce and Maceo Parker).

With songs being made for specific purposes like playlisting, radio play, and/or placement to visual, songwriting strategies have evolved to maximize effort in getting songs placed. Each of these avenues requires an attention to detail in order to land a coveted spot. This workshop series dives into the key elements that will help a song hit its target.
